The Seaplace condo complex was built on one of the best stretches of beach in Southern Longboat Key in 1973 when the island was mostly undeveloped. Situated on 40 prime acres of beach/gulf front footage, the grounds are beautifully manicured with almost a mile of walking paths throughout, sprawling lawns, flowers, palm trees and plenty of room in-between buildings that allows for an uncrowded feel no matter what time of the year. Many snowbirds enjoy the mild weather and escape the Eastern states during winter, which makes Longboat Key quite popular in the “high season” which begins in December and ends mid-April.
What is so unique about the Seaplace condo resort is all of the activities for guests and residents to enjoy. Typically, there are food trucks that will sell a variety of great cuisine options ranging from Lobster to Greek to German food on a weekly basis. During the high season, dinner reservations sometimes need to be made a month in advance, so having this option of “rolling restaurants” coming onsite is a great solution. There are also organized Bingo and Movie nights at the main clubhouse. The Clubhouse provides a great place to sit outside on the elevated patio above sea level with views of the beach and fantastic sunsets while barbecuing or getting together with friends for a glass of wine. There are also other organized events throughout high season such as theme parties, etc. Apart from having fabulous grounds, Seaplace Condo resort is also a very active social community.
The Seaplace location is prime and just two condo complexes north of the St. Regis Luxury Residences and Hotel currently being built. Prices for the St. Regis Residences ranged between $2.5 Million up to $12 Million and were all pre-sold with none currently available. Construction should be completed by end of 2023 and early 2024. The St. Regis is situated on 18 acres and home to the former location of the famed Colony Beach and Tennis Resort (pictured above), which was built in 1952 by Developer Herb Field. The Colony consisted of quaint and laid-back beach cottages, a popular restaurant and bar with an emphasis on tennis. The Colony resort was known for its beach casual and bohemian vibe which drew in visitors from all over the world. In fact, George W. Bush was staying at the Colony when the attack of 9/11/2001 occurred. The Colony helped put Longboat Key and Sarasota on the map and is where tennis coach and star Nick Bollettieri began his tennis academy. The St. Regis Hotel does plan to display old photos such as the one pictured above and taken in the 1960s to keep the memory alive of the old legend which once stood in its place. The resort will feature dining establishments including CW Prime and Piano Bar, beachside dining at the Beach Café and Sunset bar, beachside drinks at the Monkey Bar and luxury boutiques.
Clearly a development of this magnitude will put Longboat Key on the map more than it is now. With almost no public beach access points in the southern part of Longboat Key, the crowds will continue to remain very minimal. That is what is so appealing about Seaplace Resort on Longboat Key, is that it feels rather quaint and undeveloped and “Old Florida” style.
